Oil Painting

Michael Rhoades painting alludes to and is influenced by the impressionist, abstract expressionist , and other “painters of light” styles and yet reaches beyond them into contemporary forms uniquely his own. His primary tools include various pallet knives that often evoke impasto type stratifications. Though he does create non-objective works, he primarily paints abstractions of landscapes and forest scenes influenced by his times spent in the forested areas of eastern Virginia, and northern and southern Indiana.
