Dear Listener,
During a delightful conversation with dear friend and colleague, Dr. Otto Laske, he asked, “Where does the brain/mind end?” If we think about it at all, we would say it ends in our heads. However, delving a little deeper, we realize that through the nervous system, it extends to the boundaries of our bodies. Is the mind the seat of consciousness? Experiments in quantum computing have demonstrated that the very act of observing a quantum particle affects it, potentially causing de-coherence of the quantum state. This suggests that our consciousness extends beyond our bodies. A Buddhist monk might suggest that we are all connected, thus extending our consciousness well beyond our immediate proximity. A panpsychist says that everything is conscious, which would extend our minds into and beyond the multiverse. No one knows, perhaps no one CAN know, where, or if, the mind ends.
This project intends to peer deeply into these questions in the non-verbal manner in which only music can. From the outermost stratum you are able to reach… what do you see? Is there a limit to our consciousness?
Thank you for listening!
